3G in Pakistan and 4G of Zong

After an interesting auction program by PTA for 3G licenses had ended which was held at Marriot Hotel Islamabad at yesterday. Both Zong and Mobilink got 10Mhz of each 3G spectrum while Zong achieved additional 10Mhz of 4G spectrum. Ufone and Telenor got 5Mhz of each.

The Auction by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority

The four Pakistani cellular networks (Mobilink, Ufone, Telenor, Zong) participated in the auction and they all received 3G licenses. On the other hand, both Ufone and Zong had presented their interest in 4G spectrum as well and since Ufone got only 5Mhz so it didn't qualify to meet the requirement and finally Zong won the 4G world for Pakistan and the same was the most interesting part of the entire auction program.

Introducing Pakistani 3G Cellular Networks

I have aligned a list of the winners as who got what in the following:

  • ZONG 10Mhz of broadband range both for 3G and 4G
  • MOBILINK 10Mhz of broadband range for 3G
  • UFONE 5Mhz of broadband range for 3G
  • TELENOR 5Mhz of boradband range for 3G

What the Pakistani Government Made Through This?

With the winning networks stated above, the government of Pakistan made $1.182 billion US dollars as $902.82 million from 3G and $210 million from 4G spectrum.

Words for the Ending

Enabling 3G/4G connectivity in smartphones and tablets is a big change specially for the tech savvy youth of Pakistan as they are power users of wireless data from downloading entertainment to playing online multi player games.

What is your opinion and words for the launch of 3G technology in Pakistan? Don't forget to share them in the comments below.
